How to Choose a Coffee Table

Determine your needs: Buy your coffee table based on what it is to be used for. Is it for decorative purposes or will it be a stand-in dining table for meals?
Measure correctly: Use the height of your couch as a guide to choose the correct height of your coffee table. The table should be of equal height or lower.
Shop smart: Choose the material for a table according to your needs. If you have kids or a dog, it’s best to avoid glass.
Be unconventional: Think outside the box. Sometimes alternative options such as ottomans and wooden chests make ideal coffee table alternatives.
Take your time: As this is a feature item, search for the perfect table online, visit yard sales, and even look in antique shops for a bargain.

I am getting thoroughly frustrated with the furniture you can buy in stores. I will pay $200-300 for desks and side tables made of pressed particleboard. Within a year or two, they are already crumbling. On another frustrated note, the designs I like typically end up costing me a lot more than I want to pay, or are missing something! So, I started to learn how to build my own furniture. I typically use less expensive pine you can find in a hardware store to keep the cost down. Any nicks in my kitchen table are considered "memories" - haha! My guests had started asking me where I was buying my furniture - when I told them I actually built it, they were interested in the prospect of me building their own furniture. One of these builds included a coffee table and a pair of side tables for my brother in law's living room. His girlfriend and I did some searching to find exactly what she was looking for and then I came up with a plan and went to Lowe's.

They claim that the fabric actually feels like leather - or at least faux leather. Some of the people use chalk paint then wax while others use latex or acrylic paint and add fabric softener or fabric medium to the paint. While I've considered giving this technique a try, I was not willing to test it on a piece of furniture that I use all the time at home.

Sometimes repairing a furniture piece can cost more than buying something brand new and it can be more work than if you just built something from scratch. This buffet was one of those pieces. Linda reached out to us asking if we could some how make this buffet come back to life. It’s been in her family for generations and it had been living outside for quite a while so it needed MUCH love to make it usable (or even make it stand up for that matter). John looked at me like I was crazy when I said, sure we can. Here is the buffet before. It’s not on its side because I wanted a before picture showing it at its worst, it’s on its side because the back leg was completely off so it wouldn’t even stand up.

Is it ok to have the back of your sofa facing the entrance of house?

When you walk into my home the dining area is on the left and in front of you is the living room. The back of my sofa faces you because there’s no where else to put it and it’s bugging me! It’s not in a place where it feels welcoming to come in and sit down in my living room. I tried putting it on the wall with the (white birch wall picture) but it did it look right... I attached some photos so everyone could see.

How can I find discontinued Pulaski or Horchow furniture?

I can't even find the name but if I upload pictures/tag, would someone be able to able locate or at least know the collection name so I can search for it? We purchased it in 2007 from Horchow and the metal plaque on the inside says Pulaski. I am looking for the nightstand. It is 2 drawers.
