This was such a fun Dollar Tree project!

I am sure y’all have seen those little wooden bowl candles, right? Have you also seen the price tags that are on them? WOW. I love candles, but I couldn’t pay or should say I wouldn’t pay what they are going for. BUT I want one!! Today, I am going to show how I am able to get one for our home, if you want one too, you will want to keep reading. 🙂

Below is a miniature wooden dough bowl candle, the soap dish has a similar shape, don’t you think?

First thing I need to do, is remove the suction cup and arm from the soap dish. The suction cup holder was easy to remove by slipping it out of the slots.

Taking my snips, I carefully sniped the arm from the frame of the soap dish.

It cracked a little but the most part stayed intact.

Now, I had my base, it’s time to turn it to look like a wooden dough bowl.

HOW TO CREATE A FAUX WOODEN DOUGH BOWL

This is another project where I grab my joint compound. I have used joint compound on many other craft projects.

Turning the dish upside down, I started applying joint compound to the surface.

Let that dry overnight. I turned it over and did the same to the top.

Once it has dried thoroughly, I gave it a light sanding, smoothing all the surface.

Painting is the fun part, get creative. Adding layers of colors to form the look of wood. I used several different colors of Waverly chalk paint.

The final step is giving it a coat of poly.

HOW TO CREATE A WOODEN BOWL CANDLE

Add your votive candle in boiling water, carefully, don’t burn yourself.

While wax is melting, add the wicks to the bowl. I used hot glue to the metal part of the wicks and placed them in the bottom of my container.

Pour the melted wax into the container. Do not move until the wax hardens, cut the wicks.

Look how cute this turned out! I hope you make one of these for yourself, it was a lot of fun!

directions. I have wanted a wooden bowl like this for ages, this one is affordable. Could you use a bigger short dish in that shape & not put the candle in it?
