Several months ago, I created a backsplash in my bathroom using gems from the Dollar Store. After that, a lot of people requested that I continue the mosaic on the rest of the wall. While I didn't want the entire wall covered with the gems, this is what I did.
If you’re a regular Dollar Store/Dollar Tree shopper (and aren’t most DIYers?), you know about those little glass gems in the floral aisle. Their purpose is to hold your flower stems straight in a vase but there’s so much more you can do with them.
I must admit that I was SUPER intimidated to do this project. I've seen it around online and had to try it, but I felt like I was going to royally mess it up. With some logistical help and elbow grease from my dear sweet husband, we got this project done, and it wasn't near as painful as I thought it would be. I feel like this tub makeover screams,"Welcome to the spa! (minus my horrible floor--haha!)"We want to help you DIY, so some of the materials in this post are linked to sellers. Just so you know, Hometalk may collect a small share of sales from the links on this page.
Alicia W's boring bathroom wall needed refreshing. First she bought a bag of Dollar Store Gems. Check out how good her bathroom looks now for just $6!

I wanted something different and unique in my basement bathroom. I started saving caps through bars and friends and here are the results! The floor is thin set, caps, grout, and epoxy coating.
We are looking to sell our home, built in 1996 when gold tone was hot. Now, we are told that our shower door and faucets are outdated. I hate to spend money on new doors and fixtures since they are still working fine, and we won't recoup the money at the sale. Can they be painted?
We bought an 80's house with UGLY cultured marble counter tops that have the molded sink in the bathrooms - they are scratched and stained and have ugly color combinations. How can we cover/paint these - we are on a tight budget with other home reno's going on. I have looked into those repaint "kits" but those seem more for laminate counter tops and not the cultured marble. ANY suggestions would be appreciated. Just don't have in the budget to completely replace these right now. I have considered removing them and replacing with wood and inexpensive sinks but wasn't sure how this would hold up in a bathroom.
