Materials List:
- Empty drawer
- Cleaning cloth
- Mild cleaner or soapy water
- Peppermint or lavender essential oil (optional)
- Peppermint or lavender bar soap
If you’re dealing with mice sneaking into drawers, it can feel frustrating and unsanitary. Even if you can’t block them completely, you can discourage them from hanging around. Start by removing everything from your drawer. This not only gives you a chance to inspect the space but also ensures nothing tempting, like food wrappers or crumbs, remains. Wipe the inside of the drawer with a mild cleaner or warm soapy water to remove any residue.
Once the drawer is clean and dry, avoid putting anything back inside that might attract mice. For added protection, you have two natural options. The first is to use peppermint or lavender essential oil. Mice strongly dislike these scents, but keep in mind that essential oils can sometimes leave marks or stains on wood.
You can add a few drops to the back corners, or alternatively, place a few drops on a cotton ball and set it inside the empty drawer.
The second option, which is cleaner and longer lasting, is to place a strong bar of peppermint or lavender soap inside. The soap gives off a consistent scent that keeps mice away without risking oil stains.
Finally, slide your drawer back into place. This simple method provides a safe and natural deterrent, giving you peace of mind that mice will stay away from your storage spaces.

I came here to ask if it would also deter bugs-ants, roachs, etc. Living in Florida, you are constantly battling some sort of creepy crawlers

Not every one likes the smell of peppermint or lavender. Mice have NO reason to crawl into you furniture that has clothing in it, AND if you have mice you set traps to get rid of them in your house, you don't put scents in your drawers that will soak into the wood and stink forever. This makes no sense.
