If your shower base has months—or even years—of caked-on grime, soap scum, and discoloration, this deep-cleaning method can make a huge difference. While it may not restore your shower to brand-new condition, it can dramatically improve the appearance and make it look so much cleaner.

Before starting, put on rubber gloves and make sure the area is well ventilated. This cleaner is powerful, so safety is important. Always spot test first in an inconspicuous area to make sure the surface can handle it.

Begin by squirting Lysol toilet bowl cleaner directly onto the shower base, focusing on the most stained and dirty areas. You don’t need to flood it—just enough to coat the surface. Using a deck brush, spread the cleaner evenly across the entire base, working it into textured areas where grime tends to hide.

Once covered, let the cleaner sit for 10–15 minutes. This dwell time allows the cleaner to break down stubborn buildup without excessive scrubbing. Avoid letting it fully dry on the surface.

After the wait time, thoroughly rinse the shower base with water, making sure all cleaner residue is removed. You’ll notice that while the base may not be perfect, it will look dramatically cleaner and brighter than before.

This method is ideal for heavily neglected shower bases and is a great reset before switching to a regular maintenance routine to keep grime from building up again.
