Transform an overfilled drawer into an organized space with this step-by-step decluttering and organizing method. Quick, easy, and effective!

Materials List:

  • Overfilled drawer
  • Empty box or bag for donations
  • Trash bag
  • Clean surface to sort items

Empty the drawer completely: Start by removing everything from the drawer. Place all items on a clean surface such as a table, bed, or even the floor. This helps you see exactly what you’re working with and gives you a fresh start.

Sort into categories: Make three piles—keep, donate, and trash. The “keep” pile should include clothing you wear regularly and love. Place items that no longer fit or you don’t wear into the donation pile. Anything worn out or damaged beyond repair goes into the trash bag.

In my case nothing was bad enough to go to trash, so it was keep and donate.

Categorize clothing: Once you’ve narrowed it down to what you’re keeping, divide the items by type. Since this drawer is dedicated to shirts and shorts, place shirts in one pile and shorts in another. This makes the next step of folding and storing much easier.

Fold neatly: Fold each item in a way that works best for your space. For shirts and shorts, a flat fold or even a vertical file fold can help maximize drawer space while keeping things visible and easy to grab.

Put everything back: Return the folded items to the drawer in their categories. Keep shirts on one side, shorts on the other, so everything has a designated spot.

This simple process not only clears out clutter but also makes daily routines easier. With your shirts and shorts neatly organized, you’ll always know what you have and save time getting ready.
