1. Flip & Glue the Baskets
To get started, flip one basket upside down. This will act as the base of your table.
Then, apply a generous line of glue or contact cement all the way around the edge of the bottom of that basket.
Carefully place the second basket right on top of the first (make sure the rims align as evenly as possible)
Let the glue dry completely—this is where weights or clamps come in handy if you want extra hold.
2. Paint It Up
Once your glue has fully dried and the baskets feel solid, it’s time for color!
Take your newly formed table base outside or into a well-ventilated area. Lay down your drop cloth and spray paint the baskets evenly in your chosen color. You might need 2–3 light coats for full coverage.
Let everything dry thoroughly.
If using a brush-on paint, let the coats dry between applications to avoid drips.
3. Add the Tabletop
Once your base is dry and looking fabulous, bring it back inside and top it off with a tabletop.
You can use:
- A round wood disk (sold at craft stores)
- A serving tray
- A thrifted cutting board
- Or even a pre-made marble slab for extra chicness
Just center it on top and voilà !
If you want it permanent, you can glue it down. But I recommend keeping it removable so you can use the inside of the baskets for storage.
Why It Works
This DIY is more than just cute—here’s why it’s genius:
- Storage-Friendly: Keep throws, books, or extra chargers inside.
- Budget-Smart: Baskets are often cheaper than wood bases or furniture legs.
- Customizable: Paint it any color, top it with any surface.
- Portable: Lightweight and easy to move around.
The rounded shape also softens up angular spaces and brings a cozy, curated look—on a dime.
Tips to Make It Yours
- Use baskets with texture (like woven or rope) for extra visual interest.
- Want it waterproof? Use outdoor spray paint and a sealant.
- For a glam vibe, try gold or matte black spray paint and a faux marble top.

I wouldn't use this in my home now, but when I was a college student I would have!
Might give it a try for outside.
