Boho Chic Lantern
Let's make this gorgeous lantern to brighten your home!
With just a few wooden hoops, beads, and sticks I am going to show you how to make a DIY boho lantern that will look great in any room.
To start making my boho lantern, I grabbed a plastic container and poured a little bit of Rit dye into some hot water, and stirred it around a little bit to make sure that it was nice and blended.
Next, I popped the wood things into the dye, making sure that they were fully coated. The unfinished wood really soaks up the dye quickly so the wood pieces only needed to be submerged for just a couple of seconds.
I started with the hoops,
then added the beads,
popsicle sticks,
and skewers.
Once they were all dyed, I lay them on a cooling rack until they were dry.
After everything was dry, I grabbed the hoops and the popsicle sticks.
I attached the popsicle sticks to the inside of the hoop with a dab of hot glue. Make sure that they are pretty secure before you move on to the next one. You also want to make sure that they are evenly spaced out around the inner circumference of the hoop.
Next, I cut down the skewers so that they were the length of the popsicle sticks. I took an extra popsicle stick that I wasn’t going to use and used it as my guide. I lined them up and then used some clippers to trim the skewers. You can use scissors if you'd like.
With the skewers cut, it was time to add the beads. I strung them on in a decorative way to the skewers. It was important to make sure that the skewers could go through the holes of the beads. I recommend testing that out before you even start this project.
To attach the beads, I added a dab of hot glue to the skewer and then slipped the bead into place.
I wanted to make two different patterns so spaced the beads out differently for half of the skewers.
It was time to attach the skewers to the hoop but first I went ahead and added the top hoop to the other end of the popsicle sticks so that they were stable.
With the other hoop in place, I began attaching the skewers, I put a little bit of hot glue on the ends of the skewers and added them between the popsicle sticks.
I alternated the pattern until I went all the way around the hoop.
I wanted to create a handle for my boho lantern so I cut a piece of twine adding a little to the length to be able to tie knots in the ends after the beads were on.
I tied a double knot into the end of the twine and then slipped on the beads making a pattern with the different sizes.
A little piece of painter’s tape on the end allowed me to slip the beads on quickly.
To finish off the bottom of the lantern, I cut a small circle out of cardboard and attached it with hot glue.
Lastly, I added the handle so that it would hang down the sides of the lantern.
I was so happy to find a spot in my home office for my new lantern. I threw some led candles in there to make sure that they weren’t a fire hazard, and I really love how my DIY boho lantern turned out.

adorable. would be fun in black, metallics or whitewashed for wedding decor. a plastic lid the same size glued into the bottom could hold an led candle so they could be hung. very clever idea you had!!
