1. DIY Soap ball fresheners
The first hack starts with a bar of soap and a cheese grater. I grate the soap into fine flakes and then add two tablespoons of baking soda and one tablespoon of coarse salt. I like using sea salt.Â
Once that’s mixed together, I add one or two tablespoons of water until the mixture forms a dough-like consistency. From there, I roll it into golf ball-sized balls.
Here’s where the clever part comes in. I grab a disposable face mask and cut off one end.Â
Since most masks have two layers, I pull the pieces apart to create little pockets. I slip one of the soap balls into each pocket, then tie the open end shut with the elastic I cut off earlier.
I hang this inside my toilet tank, and every flush releases a fresh, clean scent. The extra soap balls can be stored in a jar so I always have refills ready to go. This simple hack not only makes the bathroom smell fresher but also adds a subtle clean fragrance every time the toilet is used.
2. Shaving Cream Odor Fix
The second hack is one I use when my bathroom still smells funky even after a good cleaning. All I need is a can of foam shaving cream. I spray a thick layer of the foam around the bottom of the toilet, right where it meets the floor.Â
I let it sit for about 10 minutes and then wipe it away with paper towels. It can get a little messy, but it works wonders at removing those stubborn odors that seem to linger no matter how well you clean.
This hack is quick, inexpensive, and surprisingly effective. By targeting the area that often traps smells, it leaves the bathroom smelling fresh and clean without needing any fancy products.
Both of these tricks are easy, affordable, and use items you probably already have at home. Whether you want a subtle, long-lasting scent every time you flush or need a stronger odor fix around the toilet, these bathroom hacks will help you keep your space clean and fresh.
The next time your bathroom needs a deeper clean, try one of these simple ideas. With just soap, baking soda, salt, or shaving cream, you’ll know exactly how to make a bathroom smell nice without any extra effort.

How about using an old towel for cleaning up the shaving cream. Less waste for the landfill and towels can be washed and reused.

Clean the toilet weekly and it won't smell and you won't have to go to all of this. Shaving cream is made of:
Oils and surfactants for lather, humectants to retain moisture, fragrances, propellants and conditioners. What part of any of this makes any sense. Not to mention it is a ridiculous waste of money.

Have a question about this project?
where does it explain why " She lays paper towels around her toilet to solve this somewhat common problem"?
I just wonder how a project involving 12 ingredients or items can be called a SIMPLE hack. They keep using that word. I do not think it means what they think it means.
