When new clients come into our shop and tell us how much they liked a set of chairs we refinished a month ago...
Here's the chairs we refinished and sold as samples of our work... that caught our new clients eye and inspired them to get their treasures refinished by us!
From left to right... Trainstation, Midnight Hour, and Coco Brown and layered with a Burlap "wash"
Here's the before photos they sent us of their furniture
As you can see this is a quality built set needing an update
Most tables we refinish in our shop are solid wood legs... but the top is veneer ... however this top to our supersize is all solid wood!!! The apron is a good quality sheathing and the one leg we repaired but besides that it was in great condition!
For the top we completely stripped the existing finish off using Dad's Remover (my absolute favortive product for chemical stripping).
They were looking for a medium shade of grey so we used the bottom of the table as a sample to show Saman's new grey stains
They choose Saman Castle Stone stain
Here's a great before and after photo... we used Superior Paint Co. Trainstation and then applied a Burlap "wash" to give the chairs a "restoration hardware" style finish.
I think adding the extra burlap wash finish really highlighted the detail in these chairs and gave it a live-able restoration hardware style finish. If they damage the furniture down the road it will be less noticeable.
Here's the after of the base! We cleaned with TSP ECO, Deglossed with Liquid Sandpaper, painted in Trainstation and "washed" with burlap. Once dry we applied 3 coats of Superior Semi Gloss Top Coat.
Stains are really hard to photograph but if I were to describe the pigments in this stain it's a medium-dark grey stain that works amazing to neutralize any warmth in wood.
If you like this finish make sure to follow me as they have a bunch more pieces they need us to custom build and refinish in the next year so I will be posting them here once their complete!
If you have any questions please post them bellow!
Happy Painting Everyone!

Love this look! You talk about a burlap wash and a Burlap wash. Is this literally using burlap to spread a wash or is it using a wash made from a stain or paint called Burlap?
