Modern Chic Curio Cabinet

When this china cabinet came into the shop I was initially only interested in the bottom part. The piece as a whole is vintage, solid wood (Spanish oak according to the label) and has great details and hardware, not to mention its in really nice shape.
I decided to transform the top half into a modern chic curio cabinet with a neutral elephany gray and antique white, complimented by a pretty floral print.
I should mention that I do still have the bottom half and plan to redesign that as well.

Did you feel like the bottom of your cabinet needed reinforcing before you attached the legs or did you want it more for aesthetics? I'm trying to determine whether we ought to add that extra board where the legs are attached to ours. We had to at the "top" because it was sunk in and not level and now I'm wondering if we need to put that same width board at the bottom for balance, although the bottom is plenty sturdy. Thoughts?
