Redo That Old Leather Couch
We have a great comfortable sofa that will electrically recline. But the light color had worn off. Not really wanting to invest in a new one I researched how to dye it.
I cleaned it with soap and water then rubbed it all over with acetone. I began using a shoe and leather dye. You have to use small daubers because cloth just soaks the due up and doesn't really cover. The applicators come with the dye.
This is the first coat. It took much more product then I ordered 8 oz so I found a leather craft shop in town and purchased more.
Not sure how many coats it took. I just keep putting it on until the color was correct. It is thin like water.
Some places did not soak the dye so I re applied acetone and tried again. Finally or was the right color. Then I applied a leather finish treatment. The whole thing dried really quickly. It's not perfect but my husband came home and thought I'd purchased a new coach
And it doesn't come off on our clothes. I rubbed with a paper towel and no color came off.

A great way to breathe new life into your sofa! I did something similar with an old leather chair that had faded in spots, and I was surprised how satisfying the process was. Acetone really does make a huge difference in prepping the surface so the dye takes evenly. I had a funny moment like that when I restored some dining chairs I bought online and even had to contact Wayfair for extra material.

yes, but how doyou put support on one of the cushions? it seems lower than the rest and it is hard to get up.
Astonishing. Could I do White of some kind over Dark Brown?
Hi is there something else a person could use besides acetone? I may be wrong but I thought it was bad for you and even flammable.
