Decorating Pillows and Throws

Choose your design: Decide on the design you wish to use. You could opt for a transferrable pattern or you could draw your design, free-hand.
Choose your embellishments: Select any items you think will add to the overall effect: sequins, beads, embroidery, lace, tassels, appliques, ribbons, transfers, or paint.
Apply your chosen embellishment: Select the best way to apply your embellishments. Beads and sequins are best sewed on, while lace and ribbons will adhere with fabric glue.
Take comfort into account: Avoid embellishments in the center of your throw. Stick to the corners and outer border to preserve its comfort.
Effective display: Place your pillows on a sofa, perpendicular to the floor. Using your hand, dent the center of the top edge.

DIY No Sew Cushions

I searched and searched for affordable material to upholster my cushions with. Everything i liked was 40-60$ a yard and I needed 6 yards. I didn't want to get just any fabric because these are bench cushions that will endure a LOT of traffic.I was in the curtain isle because i also need new curtains, and when i was feeling the black out curtains I thought, hmmm this is super nice material and very durable so i picked up two and decided here we go 18$ each to upholster my cushions. They were just black though so i needed dimension. I always knew i could paint fabric (mostly because most of my pants are stained with paint from projects and it doesn't come off) So home i went and if it was a major fail, well it was 18$ lost vs 200$ in material.

How to Age Wood (almost Instantly)

I love the look of aged wood, and I use a lot of it in my projects. However, there are times when I need a certain size, or in this case, a certain something (a clothespin) that I don’t have in my pile of beat up old lumber. I wanted to make a flour sack pillow, and I saw a nifty way to finish it off at Funky Junk Interiors by simply tying it off with jute cord, and adding a clothespin that seems to hold the bag closed. Really cute! But, I needed a clothespin, and a brand new one with a shiny new hinge was simply not going to work for my project. So, back to the clothes pin issue… I went and got a bag of new clothes pins, and simply dipped them in “magic juice” and once they dried, I had old, rusty clothespins to use on my pillow. And what is magic juice you ask?

A Twist on Shibori: Denim Bleaching

I LOVE dyeing and bleaching fabrics. I love the surprise when you untie the items and see the beautiful and unique patterns you’ve created. It’s somewhat controlled in that you pick the technique, but then you have to let go of control and it gets a little wild ; ) What I like about bleaching as opposed to dyeing is there is less experience required. When you dye fabrics, you have to do more to ensure you won't lose the color after you dye the item. With bleaching, that won't be a concern! You can bleach denim jeans, pillow shams, bolts of fabric, etc. These projects are inexpensive, simple ways to add a lot of interest. For most, this could be completed in under a couple hours, so this is a great project if you are short on time.

Beading Decorative Pillows

Some time ago I was looking for a beaded pillow for a gift. I came across this one from a Design Studio, (expensive) and decided I would make some to use as gifts and also for myself. These are inexpensive to do, as beads come in many colors, sizes, etc. and don't cost very much. A scrap of fabric, and you are off to the races. These take time to do, but since I don't crochet, knit, or sew, I can do these while relaxing and/or watching t.v.
