Dollar Tree Boho Tray

Here's a Dollar Tree craft that is neutral enough to keep out all year long! A short list of materials and an easy to follow process make this one of my favorite DIY's!
Hometalk Recommends!
Start with a pizza pan and nautical rope, which can be found at Dollar Tree. I ended up using 5 packs of rope to make 1 tray.
Take your hot glue gun and start gluing down the rope on the inside of the pan. Keep wrapping all around and cut off the excess when you get to the center. Once the inside was done, I glued the rope down on the outer ring, which took 2 passes to fully cover.
The other Dollar Tree supply you will need are these shower curtain rings, which I ended up using 1.5 packs. I had twine on hand already, but you will need to pick some up also if you don't have any.
Take each ring and wrap it around with twine. This is a little time consuming, but I threw on a movie and vegged out in front of the TV while I worked on this and it wasn't bad at all! Besides, I find crafting relaxing. Anyone else?!?
When you get to the end of each ring, I just double knotted the ends instead of glueing and cut off the excess.
Once your rings are wrapped, you can tie them together! Again, I didn't use any glue for this step. I simply wrapped a few times and double knotted to connect each ring.
Here's what your rings will look like. When you get to the ends, tie them together to create a giant loop.
Use a glue gun to adhere the rings to the out rim of the pizza pan.
That's it! This tray is the perfect size and I just love how it turned out!

Have made several of these for myself and as gifts over the last few years. Use the E6000 and it holds very well. I didn't use a metal pan but used a glass plate from a broken microwave we were getting rid of. FYI keep the circular ring for under the microwave dish also. When you set the plate on it, it turns it into a lazy susan for your table. I've taken wired ribbon and wove it through the rings and can change it out for the seasons for additional decorating. Wooden beads work great too. It all depends on what your imagination comes up with. Easy to make. Hardest part is waiting for the glue to dry.

Fabulous creativity!!! Tour de Force, Rachel! My only concern is if someone inadvertently lifts the try by the rings they will pull off. Maybe sewing the rings to the rope, although, then the rope would pull off the pizza pan, I suppose. Guess making sure anyone touching the tray during cleaning, moving, etc. will need to be clued into its delicacy. Anyone have any stability suggestions?
It is just so cool (and economical!), I will be making a few for myself and as gifts. Just have to include a cute, little cautionary note. :->
Can you tell me how many feet of nautical rope you used? Looking to buy it online. Thank you.
So darn cute! Couldn't you start with a weaved rope placemat instead of a pizza pan?
