Dollar Tree DIY: Elegant Bowl Decor
Turning plastic bowls and trays from the Dollar Tree into elegant home decor is quite easy and affordable. For this project you will need the following supplies:
- Plastic bowl (Dollar Tree)
- Chalk Paint / Acrylic Paint
- Clay
- Clay mold (optional)
This is a candy bowl from the Dollar Tree. It has a great shape and turning into a high end piece is quite easy!
The first step is to paint the inside of the bowl using chalk paint. I'm using chalk paint by American Decor in the color lace.
Using a sponge brush to avoid streaks, paint the inside of the bowl. I paint the inside in order to retain the shiny plastic outside.
Next step is to mold the embellishment that will be attached to the bowl. Using DAS air dry clay, mold the embellishment. If you are really crafty you can make something by hand without a mold.
I use this mold that I purchased on Amazon. You can search for clay molds and many will come up to choose from.
I made 3 strips of the decor piece that will be attached with hot glue. I don't let the clay fully dry, this way it's easier to mold around whatever shape or object you will be adhering it to.
The last and final step is to paint the clay. I use regular acrylic paints that can be purchased at Michaels or at any craft supply store. The color is up to you. I tend to go for a natural look, so I used a beige acrylic with a pearl shimmer paint.
That is all there is to this project. Not difficult and it looks Oh so chic!
