My husband and I used to go camping all the time. But nowadays it just seems like way too much work. But I really do miss the smell of the forest and watching the campfire burn low as the sky gets dark. So, instead of spending too much time in longing, I’ve decided to pay homage to the campfire with these Woodsy Scented Campfire Candles, with real wood wicks.

Why Chose Enamel Mugs for DIY Candle Making?
We all remember enamel camping mugs right? They're classic! The vintage look, they are the perfect size for a big cup of percolated campfire coffee and they keep your hands warm while you sip your morning joe. Plus, they are heat resistant, which makes them a perfect candidate to become a candle holder.
So let's jump straight into this DIY!
What You'll Need
- 2 Enamel Caping Mugs (enamel mugs are metal and thus heatproof)
- 2 lbs of Natural Soy Wax flakes
- 2 natural wood wicks with steel bases (they are usually sold together as a set)
- 20+ drops each Cedar Essential Oil and Eucalyptus Essential Oil
- TOOLS FOR DOUBLE BOILER: stove top, deep pan, water
Step 1:
Add the soy wax flakes to the enamel mug and place them in a pan with water, warm slowly on a medium low heat. You will need to top up the wax as it melts down.
Step 2:
Once the wax is melted, stir in 10 drops each of Cedar and Eucalyptus essential oils.
Step 3:
Place your wood wick in it's steel base and place it in the candle. Do your best to centre the wick. Set it aside to cool and solidify for 2-4 hrs.
That's it!
Enjoy the scent and crackle of a campfire in your own home. :)

How do these scents smell like a campfire...or is just an outdoor smell?
Can you use Pine & Cedar oils instead of the Eucalyptus oil or would that be too strong? I really like the Pine oil as it reminds me of the Christmas trees.
Are the wood stick candle wicks hard to get lit compared to regular candle wicks? These would be nice to also make and use at Christmas using pine or spruce needles embedded into the wax and maybe a few cranberries as well. Would make nice Christmas gifts with tiny spray of pine, tiny pinecone, dried cranberries, dried orange slices, cinnamon stick or two and some pretty ribbon tied in a bow attached to the handle. Oh so many possibilities with this candle making process. Thank you for sharing! I look forward to playing with this project.
