DIY - Kitty Scratching Post and Bed

Diane
by Diane
All the cat beds we saw at the stores were over $100.00 so we decided to try and build one ourself! In the end we spent only $15.00 buying sisal rope to go on the scratching post part!
Attached with wood screws
We started off with scrap pieces of wood! It doesn't matter what kind of shape they are in because they will be covered with carpet!
Platforms were made that would meet the different sizes of the cat. This one was for when the kitten is small.
We cut a hole for "play" and the lower platform is a sleeper when the kitten is small. Now that the is a "cat" we store her toys in the bottom !
Scrap carpet pieces and a staple gun can do w
Once we put all the different levels the way we wanted them, I went and scavenged some carpet scraps ! Most carpet installers are happy to give you their scraps for free!!
I bought sisal rope from Lowe's and wrapped it around one of the 2x4's. A hot glue gun works wonders in helping it to stay put! Wrap the strands close together so it will be a tight fit!
Finished Project!
Now that our kitty is full grown, she still scratches her claws on the scratching post EVERY DAY and she sleeps on the top level every night! In the end, we had a blast making this and saved ourselves a hundred dollars and our furniture!!!
I love my toy!!
