4 Creative Ways to Repurpose Old Rain Boots for Spring Decor

If you’ve got an old pair of rain boots collecting dust in your closet, don’t toss them just yet! Instead of letting them take up space, turn them into cute and creative spring decorations.
I had an extra pair of boots lying around (I’ve since upgraded to adorable pink ones with polar bears—thanks, Mom!), and this project gave them a whole new life.
I tried out four super simple ways to repurpose them, and they each took just a few minutes to pull together.
Tools and Materials:

1. Trim the Faux Flowers
For the first look, I decided to turn my old rain boots into a simple spring flower arrangement.
I grabbed a few faux flower stems and measured how deep I wanted them to sit inside the boots.
Then I used a pair of wire cutters to trim the stems to size.
TIP: Wire cutters work best for thick artificial flower stems—scissors usually won’t cut it (literally!).
2. Arrange the Flowers
Next, I started arranging the flowers inside the boots.
I wanted them to fill out the boots without overcrowding them, so I carefully placed the stems at different heights for a balanced, natural look.
Feel free to get creative with how you position your flowers—the beauty of this project is that you can personalize it however you like!
OPTIONAL: Add a ribbon to the top of the boots for an extra touch of charm, or even tie a bow around the boot’s ankle to give it more of a finished look.
3. Create a Handle for Hanging
Once I was happy with my flower arrangement, I decided to hang the boots on the front door as a unique spring decoration.
To do this, I attached a handle using a piece of ribbon.
Here’s how I did it:
- Tie one end of the ribbon to the buckle on one boot (the left boot in my case).
- Use scissors to make a small hole on the inside of both boots near the top calf area.
- Feed the ribbon through the holes and tie a knot on the other boot (the right boot).
- There should be just enough slack in the middle to hang it easily on a door wreath hanger.
This makes it easy to display your repurposed rain boots as an eye-catching hanging decoration.
4. Turn Boots into Easter Baskets
For my final rain boot decor idea, I transformed them into playful Easter baskets!
Here’s how:
- Fill the boots with Easter basket filler (I used yellow shredded paper, but any color works).
- Add plastic Easter eggs inside, along with a few chocolate eggs—because what’s Easter without chocolate, right? 🍫
- To finish off the look, tie a bow with the same ribbon I used for the hanging display and attach it to the boot.
Now you’ve got a cute, colorful Easter display that’s both functional and festive!
5. Use Rain Boots as Umbrella Holders
For my final rain boot decor idea, I decided to turn them into unique umbrella holders!
Here’s how:
- Simply place your umbrellas inside the boots—no need for fancy fillers, just the boots themselves do the trick.
- Arrange the umbrellas so they stand neatly in the boots, giving them easy access right by the door.
- Optional: Add a decorative touch by tying a ribbon around the boot’s top or adding some decorative pebbles or faux flowers for extra flair.
Now you’ve got a quirky and functional decor piece that keeps your umbrellas organized while adding character to your entryway!
