I'm thrilled to share a budget-friendly project that will transform your space—creating a stunning shiplap accent wall for under $150. Get ready to roll up your sleeves and let's dive into the world of DIY home decor.

Tools and Materials

  • Your chosen paint color
  • Grooved paneling
  • Liquid nails
  • Paneling nails
  • Wood filler
  • Paintbrushes and rollers
  • Saw (if the paneling needs cutting)
  • Level
  • Hammer
  • Sandpaper
Painting the wall

Step 1: Prepare Your Wall

Begin by painting the entire wall with your desired color. This will serve as the background for your shiplap accent. Be sure to allow the paint to dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Painting the paneling

Step 2: Paint the Grooved Paneling

Paint the grooved paneling the same color as your wall. This will create a seamless and cohesive look. Use a paintbrush or roller to evenly coat the paneling, ensuring you get into all the grooves.

Measuring and cutting the panels

Step 3: Measure and Cut

If your wall requires shorter lengths of paneling, measure and cut accordingly. A saw will come in handy here. Precision is key to achieving a professional finish.

Assembling the panels

Step 4: Hang the Paneling

Using a level to ensure accuracy, start hanging the paneling using Liquid Nails to attach it to the wall. Apply paneling nails to secure each piece in place.

Work your way across the wall, ensuring each piece is snug against the next.

Filling in nail holes

Step 5: Fill in Nail Holes

After the paneling is securely in place, it's time to fill in those nail holes. Grab your wood filler and a putty knife, and carefully fill each hole. Once filled, let it dry completely.

Once the wood filler is dry, use sandpaper to smooth out any rough spots or excess filler. This step is crucial for achieving a polished and professional-looking accent wall.
