DIY Grout & Tile Refresher: Make Your Bathroom Grout Look New Again

Refresh dull, dirty grout with this easy DIY grout and tile cleaner. Using baking soda and dish soap, you’ll restore brightness in just a few steps.
Materials List:
- Small bowl
- Baking soda
- Dawn dish soap (or another gentle dish soap)
- Old toothbrush
- Damp cloth or sponge
Mix your cleaning paste: In a small bowl, combine baking soda with just enough Dawn dish soap to form a thick paste. The baking soda works as a natural abrasive to lift dirt, while the dish soap cuts through grease and grime. The paste should be thick enough to stick to grout lines without running.
Apply to grout lines: Using an old toothbrush, spread the paste directly onto the grout. Make sure each line is well coated so the mixture can penetrate and loosen any buildup.
Let it sit: Allow the paste to rest on the grout for about 10 minutes. This gives the ingredients time to break down tough stains and discoloration. For extra dirty grout, you can leave it a little longer, but don’t let it fully dry out.
Scrub the grout: After the waiting time, scrub the grout lines with the toothbrush in a back-and-forth motion. This helps lift away embedded dirt and brightens the grout.
Rinse and wipe: Finish by wiping the area with a damp cloth or sponge to remove the paste and reveal the refreshed, cleaner grout lines.
This DIY grout refresher is budget-friendly, non-toxic, and easy to make with items you likely already have at home. It’s a great way to extend the life of your tile and keep your home looking fresh without harsh chemicals.
