Our front entryway needed a big time refreshing. It faces the north, so it doesn't ever get a lot of natural light and it was just too plain and boring. We knew that board and batten would be a great way to improve it, but we wanted it to look professional and be inexpensive. Read on below and at our site to see how we did it!
We first started by covering the textured wall with 1/8" hardboard. Some people just install battens right on the wall, but we felt like with textured walls this wouldn't look right.
Next we cut top/bottom boards and battens from 1/4" hardboard and installed those over the top of the 1/8" hardboard backing.
To finish it off, we put on a ledge and covered the gap with 3/4" cove moulding.
Then we filled nail holes, caulked the seams and covered everything with two coats each of primer and paint.
This has made such a difference in our front entry! Total material cost (not including paint) came in at under $30. And the end result looks very professional and neat.
For more details on how to to do this yourself, check out the post at our site. Thanks!
