Three Kids, Four Dogs: Why This Hybrid Fits Our Real Life
This article is sponsored by Toyota.
I’ve been in the market for a new car. My current car will soon be going to my fifteen year old. When I began my search I knew exactly the vehicle I wanted to look into, the Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid!
Fast forward to getting one in my hands (courtesy a loaner from Toyota) and I could not have been more pleased with what I experienced. When I first got the 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid, I knew it was going to get a lot of use. I have three kids (all in sports), four dogs, I work full time, after school activities, errands, and everything else that seems to fill up our calendar. I don’t really have a “just for fun” car. It needs to fit into our actual life, and make our day to day lives easier.
My first impression of the Grand Highlander was that it felt like it was built for exactly that. It is luxurious, but functional, and the first thing I noticed was the space. We are a family of five, so having enough room for everyone without feeling like we are packed in is a big deal.
I also loved that the Grand Highlander felt spacious without feeling huge or difficult to drive. I’m only 5’1” and I was worried it would feel too big for me. It was the exact opposite! I felt the most comfortable in the Grand Highlander out of any other car that I’ve ever owned. My husband was even impressed with how well I fit into the car, he has seen first hand my struggles in the past! My husband is six feet tall and he felt just as comfortable, so it will easily fit a variety of drivers.
Inside the car, I immediately felt “at home”. The seats were one of the first things I noticed. I spend a lot of time in the car, so a comfortable seat is not a small thing to me, it’s a must have. Comfortable seats and a car with no blind spots to make driving less stressful. The Grand Highlander fits those both! The Grand Highlander really is at the upper echelon of comfort and features for a family vehicle.
I love how smooth it is to drive. This was probably one of the biggest, but most pleasant surprises for me. It felt noticeably smoother than many other vehicles I’ve driven, and that made everyday driving more enjoyable. My entire family made so many comments on how comfortable of a ride it is.
The cherry on top of this particular Toyota, is it is a hybrid. This is very important to me, with fuel economy being near the top of my list for a vehicle. I used the Eco option a lot during our normal driving and I was really impressed with the gas mileage. However, it did not sacrifice on performance. I appreciated that it had a great balance between efficiency and ability. Also, considering how spacious this vehicle is, the fuel efficiency was truly impressive! When you spend as much time driving around town as we do, those little things add up.
The exterior redesign looks so sleek, yet practical. I liked that it felt modern and updated without losing that classic Toyota SUV look. It has enough presence to feel like a family SUV, but it still looks stylish.
Inside, there were several things that made me genuinely excited to get in the car. I loved the sound system, and the sunroof/moonroof made the whole interior feel even more open, and the styling of the interior was great
So far, my first impression of the 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid is that it is a really good balance of the things our family actually needs.
- It has the space for our family.
- It has the comfort I need for everyday driving.
- It has the hybrid efficiency I was looking for.
I actually look forward to driving this car. Weekend road trips, here we come thanks to the Grand Highlander! We have already used it for everything from everyday errands and running the kids around town to getting out into the mountains for a day.
And honestly, that is probably the biggest compliment I can give it so far. It fits into our life and overall makes our day to day hustle and bustle easier and more enjoyable.
