One SUV for Weekday Chaos and Weekend Adventures

Our family is always going somewhere. Between work, school, sports, after-school activities, errands, appointments, and trying to squeeze in some fun on the weekends, we spend a lot of time in the car.

Then there are the dogs. We have four. So when I say that space matters to us, I really mean it.

The 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid (a press loaner I had the unique opportunity to test out) quickly became one of those vehicles that just fit into our everyday routine without requiring us to change how we live. During the week, it was our everyday family vehicle. I used it to get to work, run errands, pick up the kids, and drive them to sports, appointments, and after-school activities. Nothing glamorous. Just real life. And that is actually where I think a family vehicle proves itself.

The Grand Highlander had plenty of room for our family of five, and I loved how comfortable everyone felt inside. There was enough space that it didn't feel like we were constantly climbing over bags, backpacks, or each other. Anyone that has kids knows, cramped kids can get irritable really quickly! That is no longer a concern with the Grand Highlander.

That extra room becomes even more important when you are loading up for a weekend.

We took the Grand Highlander into the mountains for a day trip, and that was when I started thinking about how versatile it really is. It works for the Tuesday afternoon baseball game run, but it also works when you decide on Friday night that you want to get out of town for the weekend.

That is the kind of vehicle I need.

I don't want one car for everyday life and another for adventures. I want something that can handle both.

I also really appreciated how smooth the Grand Highlander drove. Around town, that made stop-and-go driving feel easy, and on our mountain day trip, the comfortable ride made the drive just as enjoyable as the destination.

The hybrid was another big plus for everyday life. I used the Eco option frequently, and the gas mileage was something I noticed pretty quickly. Even in Eco mode, it has enough power to feel confident on the road and be able to handle any situation you might come across on the road. When you are constantly driving kids around, getting better efficiency without having to change your entire routine is a win.

Next are the little things that make you actually enjoy being in the vehicle. The seats were incredibly comfortable. I absolutely loved the sound and infotainment system! Our family loves music, having the system that it has was appreciated by the whole group. The sunroof/moonroof made the entire interior feel bright and open, and the redesigned exterior also gave it a fresh look that I really liked.

For our family, the 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid isn't just a vehicle for one specific purpose.

It is the vehicle for school drop-off, work, sports, grocery runs, errands, mountain drives, weekend adventures, and all of the random places a family of five and four dogs end up going.

That versatility is what stood out to me most. It feels like a vehicle that can keep up with our everyday life while still being ready when we decide to go somewhere fun.
