1. Cutting the Wire
Start by rolling out your chicken wire, making sure it's stable by placing two boards on each side.
Using wire snips, cut out three square sections.
2. Shaping The Wire
To create the flower head, snip one edge of each square so that the wire ends are loose.
On the opposite side, leave the hexagons closed.
Now, twist the loose ends of one square around the closed side of another square to form a tube.
Once you have a closed tube, squish one end together to form a round shape.
Use your hands to mold it into a ball-like structure.
Do this for all three pieces so you’ll end up with three balls in different sizes.
3. Paint Your Wire Flowers
Next, it’s time to bring your flowers to life! Mix up a paint color that resembles the vibrant hues of a real allium flower – pink with hints of burgundy.
With a small paintbrush, apply paint to the outside of the wire frame, allowing it to drip through the openings.
For the inside, poke the brush through the wire and use those drips to coat the inner surface. This gives your flower a multi-dimensional, artistic finish.
4. Creating the Flower Stems
While your flower heads dry, let’s work on the stems. Take three bamboo garden stakes and paint them green to resemble plant stems.
Once dry, drill small holes near the top of each stake.
You’ll need holes on all four sides to attach the wire flower heads securely.
Cut two six-inch pieces of wire for each stake.
Thread them through the drilled holes.
Twist and secure the wire on them stem.
Twist them around the stake so they hold in place, then insert the wired ends into the bottom of the flower heads.
Twist the wire tightly to secure the heads to the stems.
5. Adding Faux Grass Leaves
To give your wire flowers a more natural look, we’re going to add faux grass as leaves.
Clip a few faux grass bunches from your mesh planter or pick up some from the Dollar Tree.
Drill a small hole in each bamboo stake at the height where you want the leaves.
Insert the faux grass wire through the hole.
Finally, twist it around the stake until it’s securely attached.
