DIY Indoor Living Plant Wall - A Life Unfolding
Hi!
Today I am sharing how I made a DIY Indoor Living Plant wall. I designed this wall for our latest short-term rental property, making it quite the feature wall!
It was easy to make and is pretty easy to maintain.
DIY Indoor Living Plant Wall
Materials Used:
- 1- 8 ft pieces of plywood (cut into two)
- 1 x 2 board
- Screws with anchors
- Spray paint
- 4 and 6-inch plant hangers
- 4 and 6-inch clay pots
- Plants
Directions:
I started by cutting the plywood to fit the wall space.
I then painted the plywood with a Moss Green.
We needed two separate pieces as the wall has a weird jut in it at the corner- which was part of the reason I chose this corner. It had a lot going on over there.
The bathroom is on the opposite side of this wall, and I didn’t want to attach a ton of screws into the wall that could maybe hit a pipe, so we made the plywood into a frame and attached that to the wall.
If I decide to take it down later, we only have four screw holes to fill on each piece.
Attaching the frame to the wall.
Finding the studs, we found we could use one screw into each corner.
NEXT:
Adding the plant holders
I used both 4-inch and 6-inch plant holders that I found on Amazon.
Next, I randomly attached the holders to the frame.
I was happy that I wasn’t in danger of hitting any plumbing!
PLANT LIST FOR EASY CARE:
My go-to plant varieties for an Indoor Plant Wall
- Snake Plant/Sansevieria
- ZZ Plant
- Pothos
- Philodendron
- Spider Plant
- Monstera
- Chinese Evergreen
- Lucky Bamboo
- Aloe
- Hoya
After all the planters were attached, I put the plants into clay pots I bought locally.
Note: take a plant holder with you when you buy the pots. The 6-inch pots varied a little in size, and some slipped through the planter’s rim.
I ended up using 12- 6-inch pots and 12- 4-inch pots.
The window light is going help the plants stay happy.
To water, I pull them down and place them in the shower while I clean the rest of the house.
My guests have LOVED the wall so far.
So, what do you think? Would you put one in your home?
Until Next time,
-Libbie

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
Those are not 4ft pieces of plywood. What is the actual height of your wall, they have to be at least 6 to 8 ft tall. If you’re going to post something at least give the proper measurements.
Where did you get the black plant holders?
They are not in your description list.
How do you control the mess when you water them?
