How to Make a Modern Plant Stand From Dollar Tree Jenga Blocks

by Danielle

Recently I picked up one of those multicolor Jenga-style block sets from Dollar Tree, and an idea popped into my head. I love the look of darker stained wood in my decor, so I decided to pull out all the darker pieces and see what I could build.

A little super glue, some stacking, and a few minutes later… I had a modern mini plant stand that honestly looks like something from a home decor boutique.

The best part? It cost just a couple of dollars to make.

Tools & Materials:

  • Dollar Tree multicolor Jenga-style block set
  • Super glue (Dollar Tree works great)
  • Small plant or decorative item to display

1. Choose Your Blocks

First, open the Jenga-style block set and sort through the pieces.

Since I love the look of darker wood, I pulled out only the darker blocks for this project. This helps give the finished stand a more modern, cohesive look.

Of course, you could also mix the colors if you want something more playful or rustic.

2. Build the Base

Start by creating the center structure.

  • Take four blocks and glue them end-to-end on their narrow sides.
  • Press them together firmly and allow the glue to set.

This forms the middle support for the stand.

Next:

  • Glue two additional blocks on each side of the row you just made.

Now you should have a wider base that will support the plant.

3. Add the Vertical Pieces

Once the base is secure, it’s time to create the legs.

Glue vertical blocks onto the ends of the structure on all four sides.

These pieces act as the feet of the stand, lifting your plant slightly off the table and giving it that modern geometric look.

4. Reinforce the Feet

Flip the entire stand over.

Then glue one extra block on top of each of the feet.

This strengthens the structure and gives the stand a more finished, chunky look.

Why This DIY Works So Well

This little project works because Jenga blocks are:

  • Uniform in size
  • Lightweight but sturdy
  • Easy to glue together

The stacked pattern naturally creates a modern geometric style, which makes the finished piece look far more expensive than it actually is.

And since Dollar Tree sells both the blocks and glue, it’s a super affordable craft.

Styling the Finished Stand

Once my stand was finished, I took it straight to my entryway table and placed a small olive plant on top.

I honestly couldn’t believe how good it looked. The darker wood tones made it feel warm and modern, and the little bit of height helped the plant stand out among the other decor.

This stand would also look great with:

  • Small succulents
  • Candles
  • Essential oil diffusers
  • Decorative bowls
  • Mini sculptures
