Dollar Tree Hanging Baskets
Hey all you cool cats and kittens... sorry I had to. I’m sure everyone has heard that by now. 🤣 I created these hanging baskets for a fun little challenge we did on Instagram using the hashtag # craftbindump. You can ONLY use materials you have lying around! It was super fun, cheap ($3) and this is what I created!😊
Create the Base
You want to first start by taking your Dollar Tree rope and creating a base. I started by laying the rope flat and hot gluing it in a circle creating a spiral.
The Base
Keep glueing the rope in a spiral till it’s formed a decent size circle. This will act as our “base.”
The “Basket”
Once you have a decent size base, you want to start gluing the rope upwards. You can choose whatever size basket you like! I wanted to create a smaller one so I used a bottle of hairspray to wrap my rope around. Keep glueing one layer on top of another until you get to a height you like. A little side note, I kept rotating the bottle so the glue wouldn’t stick to it. Make sure to do this or you’ll have to use a knife to free it from the bottle like I did for the first one. 😂
The “Basket”
Once you’ve reached your desired height, just cut the rope off and glue it on to the inside! Super easy and really cute! Almost done!
The Handles
To create the handles, I used the left over rope, cutting it in half and gluing the pieces in long U shapes on each side. Trim the bottoms off and your basket is done! It should look like this when you are all finished. 😊
Find a branch!
To hang the baskets, I used cotton twine from the Dollar Tree. I looped the strings over the branch and tied off the baskets. I decided to hang them at different heights to create some dimension. I found the branch outside, so that was free! Score, free is always a win!
Dollar Tree Flowers
Since I had to use materials lying around, I used these faux flowers I found at DT a few years ago. You can use anything you like! I think greens would also be nice as well! Very spring! I hung this on the wall using two little nails, resting the branch on top. I tried other ways of hanging it but I liked the look of it this way the most. So easy and it looks so cute! The perfect little project for only a few bucks! I hope this inspires you to create your own. A great way to use up those old materials! These are so cute! My roommate is always losing pens and other small items. Think I will make him a couple of these for his room to keep up with things. May use a small jar and leave it inside to help weigh them down since he would probably rather have them on a nightstand or dresser. What a great, simple project. Thanks!

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
How did you hang the stick. Love this! So many possibilities.
Is the base a separate piece glued on or did you make the base and then continue glueing rope on top without cutting it to make the basket? So cute!
If I want to make a bigger basket, how would I glue the new rope to the one already used? Thanks!
