Repurposing Bicycle Wheel - Holiday Wreath
My husband and I are avid cyclist. All six of our bikes, which we ride frequently, live inside the house and are mounted on the walls as our "Ridable Art". We have many used bicycle parts and I decided to make one of our old wheel rims into a Christmas wreath.
Repurposing an old Bicycle wheel into a Christmas Wreath.
I started with a string of battery powered Fairy Lights.
And an old bicycle wheel rim. None of our old rims have spokes in them so I went for the illusion of spokes with the Fairy Lights.
I began with CAREFULLY threading the Fairy light string through the open spoke hole in the wheel. In one hole, across the wheel and through the opposite whole. Then run the light string past two holes going through the third hole. Repeat.
Two things to NOTE: 1) the Fairy Lights are a bit delicate, do not pull hard or bend too aggressively. I kept them lite while stringing to make sure that they didn't suddenly stop working.
NOTE: 2) The sting was a bit short to make it to the final hole by about three inches. You can see that there is no light on the last "spoke" coming to the battery pack. This is where the garland help cover not only the the shortage, but also the battery pack.
You could use a smaller wheel rim and the light string would probably reach the distance.
Finally, I attached the garland with floral wire and added ribbon and christmas balls. This is all personal taste, or color matching to your theme.
If you have a wheel with spokes you can wrap or weave the Fairy lights through and not have to worry so much about how delicate they are.
