How to Make Festive Patriotic Stars and Stripes Wine Glasses
I was in a home decor store the other day and saw some fun and festive wine glasses. I instantly thought of my grandmother who loves to have various holiday-themed dishware on hand.
When I saw the price tag rang in at $12 a pop, I figured I could make my own version of the patriotic glasses for much less, while also adding sentimental value.
All it took was a steady hand, some dollar store wine glasses, and some multi-surface acrylic paint to create these firework and patriotic printed beauties.
DIY patriotic crafts
I decided to do a stars and stripes glass and a fireworks print one as well.
These glasses will work great for any Americana celebration!

Wash and Dry the Glasses
Begin by washing the glasses thoroughly to remove any dust particles or residue. Give them a good rinse and dry them off, preparing a clean canvas for your wine glass painting project.
Fireworks Wineglass
1. Paint Spectacular Fireworks
For the first patriotic wine glass, let's create a fireworks design!
Position your paintbrush in the center of where you'd like a firework to burst and gently pull it away, allowing the paint to taper off at the end. Repeat this motion in a circular pattern and add a few additional bursts outside the circle.
2. Add a Colorful Rim
To infuse a pop of color at the base of the glass, carefully run your paintbrush along the edge, creating a vivid rim that complements the fireworks above.
3. Embellish with Polka Dots
To give your personalized wine glass a playful and whimsical touch, dip the opposite end of your paintbrush into the paint and dab it sporadically on the glass to create polka dots.
These delightful dots will add charm and character to your festive glassware.
Stars and Stripes Wineglass
1. Paint the Bottoms
For the second glass, we'll craft a stars and stripes design.
Begin by placing star stickers along the bottom of the glass, ensuring they are covered entirely. Then, dab paint over the stickers, coating the bottom of the glass.
Allow the paint to dry, creating a patriotic display of stars.
2. Wrap the Stem in a Ribbon
For the swirled stripe take a piece of tape and wrap it around the stem and the rest of the glass. *Be sure to leave space between the tape. this will serve as a guideline for the subsequent steps.
3. Paint and Create Stripes
Next, paint a stripe of red paint next to the tape, which will act as a guideline for the other two stripes. Once the red stripe has dried, paint a white line beside it, followed by a red line adjacent to the white line, nestled between the two red stripes.
Cure Your Glasses
This step is crucial to ensure the longevity of your patriotic wine glasses.
Before turning your oven on, place the glasses on a baking sheet and put them in the oven. Now, turn the oven to 350 degrees and let them bake for 30 minutes.
*Do Not Preheat the Oven - it is important that the glasses warm up with the oven.
When the 30 minutes is up, turn off the oven and allow the glasses to cool inside. Remember to hand wash only, as these personalized glasses deserve gentle care.
Admiring these festive and eye-catching wine glasses, I can't help but feel excitement bubbling up for the upcoming 4th of July festivities.
The best part about this creative project is its versatility. You can personalize the designs and unleash your imagination to match any occasion or theme.
So why not give it a try? Channel your inner artist, save some money, and create unique, sentimental pieces that will undoubtedly impress your loved ones.

There is one warning, multi-surface acrylic is nowhere near as durable as GLOSS acrylic paint... Anything but gloss will flake and fade after only about three washings in the top rack of your dishwash while the gloss will last for over a year of regular use. (Yes, I've done glass painting for over a decade and don't waste your cash at the craft stores that "claim" to be opaque glass paint cuz it's nothing more than a re-labeled bottle of gloss. Transparent true glass paints can also be used on cool things consisting of a gold or silver base or even on a mirror for mind blowing effects. Imagine what you could do with a clear wine glass with a gold colored metal stem. Same oven baking concept also. Just make sure you don't leave any air bubbles or you'll have to touchup and rebake again later.

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
Did you remove the star stickers or just leave them covered up with the paint?
Thanks,
Could you add a clear sealer like decoupage over the paint to help the colored paint last longer?
Can this be done on plastic glasses, waiting a few days for the paint to cure without heating in the oven? Has anyone tried plastic glasses?
