Dawn Powerwash is a foam spray that you can use for dishes. I like it because only a little bit comes out at a time, so it's perfect for washing a few dishes at a time. I also use it for greasy foods or stuck on food so they can soak for a few minutes. You can learn other ways to use it in this DIY Dawn Powerwash refill hack post.

Step 1: Gather Materials

To make the homemade Dawn Powerwash, you'll need a Dawn Powerwash spray bottle, blue Dawn dish soap, and rubbing alcohol. The perfect doesn't matter for the alcohol. It's not enough to disinfect anyway, even if you use 99 percent. It's there for more scrubbing power.

Step 2: Take Measurements and Add Water

To make 32 ounces (a quart), you'll need 26 ounces water, 4 ounces blue Dawn, and 2 ounces rubbing alcohol. Put the water in the mason jar.

Step 3: Add Alcohol and Dish Liquid

Then add the alcohol and the Dawn dish liquid. Put the lid on and let it sit for a few hours. This helps the Dawn and rubbing alcohol really mix with the water.

Step 4: Refill Powerwash

After a few hours, you can refill your bottle with the DIY Dawn Powerwash and use it like you usually would.

    How much Dawn liquid?

  • Debbie Carwile Debbie Carwile on Mar 10, 2024

I never did see a reply that said how much dawn to mix in this concoction. Never mind I am tired of looking for it.

Does it have to be a Dawn power wash bottle?

I’d like to leave it by my sink. Would a foam dispenser bottle work?

    For anyone who needs it;

    4oz Dawn = 1/2 cup

    2oz rubbing alcohol = 1/4 cup

    26oz water = 3 1/4 cup

I mixed mine in my quart size measuring cup, used a whisk to mix rather than waiting, then was able to easily pour it into my old PowerWash bottle, and the rest into a mason jar for later. Cheap, easy and works great!

  • I probably looked at a half dozen sites just today, trying to verify the ratios for each ingredient. I’ve made this before and it worked well.

THIS recipe calls for four ounces of Dawn Every other recipe I’ve seen calls for four tablespoons. That’s twice as much Dawn dishwashing liquid. It’s not printer ink, but it does cost money.

My previous mixes worked pretty well for me. Not being able to see or read very well, I just mixed up one cup each of dawn and 91% Alcohol in a gallon jug. We will see how it works like this, and maybe add more something or other later if it doesn’t work well. I’ll try to update you on the progress.

    Stay safe!
