1. Unclog a Drain with a Zip Tie
Is your sink clogged? It happens to the best of us. If you’ve got water backing up and won’t go down, grab a zip tie.
Cut it halfway through at a 45-degree angle to create barbs on both sides of the zip tie.
Stick it down the drain, working it in and out. You’ll see all the gunky hair and mess coming out.
After a few pulls, watch the water flow smoothly again.
2. Secure Your Luggage
Worried about someone tampering with your luggage while you’re traveling? Instead of a traditional lock, you can use an inexpensive zip tie.
Just secure it around your suitcase to keep it safe. It’s easy to remove when you’re done, and it adds a layer of security without the need for extra locks.
3. Keep Your WD-40 Straw in Place
Ever lost the straw on your WD-40 can? It’s always the first thing to go missing!
To keep it handy, take two zip ties, tie them together, and secure the straw by inserting it through the joints.
This will keep it in place until you need it, and when you’re done, it’s easy to remove.
4. Organize Cables and Wires
Are your cords and wires a tangled mess, especially under your desk or in your drawer? Zip ties are perfect for bundling them together.
Simply gather the wires and secure them with a zip tie. When you need to access them again, just give it a tug, and they’ll come loose.
5. Fix a Loose Door Screw
If your door has a wobbly screw that keeps coming loose, zip ties can help.
Cut some zip ties into small pieces and stick them inside the hole where the screw goes.
This adds friction, helping the screw stay in place. Don’t over-tighten, but it’ll keep that door from rattling.
6. Measure Drill Depth with a Zip Tie
Are you drilling and worried about going too deep? Simply use a zip tie as a measuring tool.
Wrap it around your drill bit at the desired depth, and when the zip tie hits the surface, stop drilling.
It’s a quick, easy way to measure and avoid damaging your project.
7. Keep Tools From Rolling Away
If your tools or caulking tubes keep rolling away, use a zip tie to secure them.
Don’t even worry about cutting the excess—just leave it as it is, and the zip tie will keep your tools in place.
No more chasing after runaway caulk tubes!
8. DIY Caulking Gun with Zip Ties
Don’t have a caulking gun? No problem! You can use a zip tie to make your own.
Simply clamp the caulking tube with a clamp, use two zip ties to hold it in place, and tighten a piece of wood or a dowel to create pressure.
You’ll have a makeshift caulking gun in seconds.
