Rust on my shower curtain rod- again!

Question

I have a curved shower curtain rod and it is only a few years old. l  used trim clad once to cover the rust and now it is all rusty again. Any suggestion on how to avoid and fix the rust?

You can try wetting aluminum foil with a little water and rub over the rust, or if you have coke in the house put some of that on a cloth and rub away.Mr. clean magic eraser may help and or CLR ( calcium,lime and rust)remover.

You could also take the rod down, sand it and clean off the rust, then use Rustoleum spray metal primer. Let dry then you can use a spray paint in the color of your choice. It should slow the progression of the rust and the rod will look brand new again.

Lots of comments already to get the rust off. I have a similar problem with mine, and have to wipe it down with WD40 sprayed on a rag every once in awhile. It's not a perfect solution, but it helps keep the rust down.

Any rust can be taken care of with Rust Cure. Spray the rusty areas of the rack and in an hour wipe off the oily residue. In 5 days the rusty areas will have turned gun metal grey and be completely cured. this is what I would do then repaint.Here is where to go for all problems. I just love these people. After the rust is gone, try waxing the rod with Minwax paste wax.  I use this on wood, stained glass projects, and tile.  2-3 coats and let it dry in between coats.  Buff it to a shine.  Good luck to you!

Hello, hope this helps you out, Spray undiluted vinegar onto the rust spots, let it sit for about 10 minutes, and then scrub with a sponge, You can then put a coat of rustoleum on it. Let that 1st coat dry completely, than add a second coat. Switch out the old shower curtain rings with new plastic ones or metal ones with the rollers on them to keep from scratching up your new paint.

I had luck spraying WD40 on a paper towel and rubbing over the shower curtain rod.
