How to repair settling cracks in the drywall.
This is only a patch, so if significant settling is still occurring at a fast rate, take care of that first. Otherwise, it works well.

Open up the crack edges with the point of a 5-in-1 tool to create a V-shaped groove, dust out and prime. Screw down the springy wall to the closest studs.
Pack in a flexible patching compound like Sher-Wms ConSeal (knife grade), then run your finger down the crack and and pull out what you can.
Cover the crack with the low profile version of fiber tape.
Apply 2-3 coats of joint compound, sand and prime.

I notice that there appear to be screws above and below the crack that didn't seem to be there to begin with. Did you put those there for a reason or were they there all along.

Looks like a great idea! We’ve been having this problem all over my house. We’ve been mudding, taping, sanding, mudding tapping, then caulking. Might give this a try!
