Unicorn Spit Coffee Table

I blended Unicorn Spit to create a new look for this Coffee Table.
I found this Coffee Table online, it has a solid wood top and wrought iron base. I particularly liked the curvature of the legs.
Using a palm sander I sanded the top with 240 grit sandpaper and hand sanded the border, ready for painting.
I painted the top with Annie Sloan Florence chalk paint, sanding it smooth with 400 grit sandpaper.
The base was in need of some attention, so I unscrewed it from the top, cleaned it and gave it two coats of Rust-oleum paint and primer, gloss black spray paint.
I randomly squeezed, from the bottle Unicorn Spit's Zia Teal, White Ning, Blue Thunder and Midnight blackness onto the top of the table. I sprayed the unicorn spit with water from a water bottle and moved the palm of my hand horizontally across the table to blend the Unicorn Spit until I was satisfied with the coverage.
When the Unicorn Spit was dry, I placed painters tape along the edge of the top and painted the border with midnight blackness. The painters tape allowed me to get straight lines and did not interfere with the Unicorn spit on top. Thankfully when I removed the painters tape, it did not lift the dry Unicorn spit.
When the legs were dry, I put the table back together. I sealed the top with 3 coats of polyurethane.
I was very happy with the finished result. It took 5 days to complete, 2 days to prepare the table top and legs, however with each coat of polyurethane I waited for 24 hours between coats to allow it to cure.

Whenever I see unicorn spit projects in headings, I know I'll instantly hate it. But this time I'm blown away. This table is truly gorgeous!

This is really cute! My problem with trying something like this is the polyurethane, is it heat resistant? I mean, if you lay a hot mug on the table, will it stain or melt?
Did you use any particular technique in blending the gel colors? Was it one sweep across with your hand or multiple? Did you go both directions?
I want to start my first project here and don't even know where to start, but your finished product is beautiful!!!
Do you need to use chalk paint under the unicorn paint, or will another type of paint work?
