How to Remove a Pony Wall
We had this little half height wall in our dining room, and we decided it was time to remove it. It really broke up the space, and we just didn't need it anymore!
Here we go, bye bye old wall!
First I started by sawing the top and the two sides, and removing all of the material from the wall.
Then I cut the studs and removed the wood with a crowbar. We then just pulled out the rest of the wall out. Much thanks to my helper!
We were left with this awkward space in the floor.
I removed the half tiles so that we could replace them with full new tiles. I chiseled them out carefully with a screwdriver and a hammer and then removed the grout and all the tile.
And...done!
I then set the new tiles, and they fit like a glove!! Now it's time to do the electrical work.
My helper did this part, because he's the professional. To keep it short, we cut the wires, added new boxes, and got new outlets. The new outlet has USB port, so we can charge our phones!
We then finished up the wall. We used a piece of drywall that was left from the wall before, and added new round edging attached with drywall screws.
Next we used joint compound all over the area, and let it dry.
We used a fan to help speed this up!
We applied this set on each tile (almost like buttering bread!) and laid them to sit firmly on the floor, lined up next to the tiles that were already there.
We let the tiles dry overnight.
We then applied some texture to the wall.
The whole process took 3 days! It was an amazing experience and I love the way it came out!
