My daughter's school has a costume project in October. They Give every kid a vocabulary word and they were to creative a costume based on the word.
We got Toucan! We had lots of fun doing this project. Most of the stuff I had at home, so my cost was minimal. We hope you enjoy it.
Cut card stock in to a triangle without a pointed tip.
Fold that on the visor of the cap - cut any excess and shape the point by adding paper masking tape. use hot glue to glue it firmly glue it to the visor.
Wrap the whole thing in tape.. like a mummy.. LOL it's easier to paint on the paper masking tape.
Now the fun for the little ones begin. Outline everything with a pencil, tell them what colors go where. Then go back and make it detailed.
glue the beads or buttons for eyes.
Let Dry !
Now it's time for the wings. Cut the round table cloth in half. Make 2 cuffs out of the Velcro for each wrist and glue them to the point of the wings where the hands should be. Also glue one long strip of Velcro to the part of the wings that falls right below the neck.
Make sure you measure to height. :)
Place hot glue dots on the table cloth/wings and start placing the boas in place.
Paint the shirt..... if you want to. We placed our vocabulary word on the shirt with iron-on letters.
Match the strip of Velcro on the wings to the back of the shirt and glue that on, so that the shirt and the wings are attached. Now the wings can be taken off the shirt if need be. (this is for comfort since it was for school)
BOOM!! you should now have a Toucan!
Also added an elastic to the wings front so it wouldn't slid off from the weight of the feathers.
now FLY!
Enjoyed the project?
