Faux Zinc Canister
Save that empty coffee can to make this beautiful countertop planter.

Before you begin this project, make sure to remove the label from a large coffee tin.
Also, make sure to clean it out thoroughly with soap and water.
Once the can is dry it’s time to start transforming the tin. Give a light sanding first off with some coarse sandpaper.
Next, attach a stencils that fits on the can with some painter’s tape.
Use modeling paste to cover the entire stencil.
While the paste is still wet, carefully remove the stencil. Repeat this process on the other side if both sides will be visible on your counter.
Once the modeling paste is dry, give it a really, really light sand with the same sandpaper.
I also gave mine a quick coat of Elmer's glue over the stencil part to seal it up.
Next, use some black craft paint, and paint over the whole thing,
When the paint is fully dry, add some silver acrylic paint.
I added some water to mine to water it down.
Dab a piece of wet paper towel into the paint mixture and lightly dab the surface of the can.
You want it to be fairly runny so you can spray your can at the same time as well.
Keep covering the can until there is only a little black peeping through.
You can add a final spritz of water to the can and let it drip through the paint.
After everything is completely dry, it’s time to add a little faux rust.
Dip a brush into some red or copper colored paint and light drag the brush along the edges of the can and embellishment. To make it look natural, add it to where water would settle and maybe rust this motif a little bit.
Finally, add a little bit of green just to make it look like it's got a little bit of moss on it,too. Like it's been outside for a long time, just on the rim and on the bottom.
Here is my faux canister. It's worked out really well and is a great way to use up your old coffee cans.
