DIY Mason Jar Wall Decor

Supplies Needed:

• 1 x 8 x 14 board
• dark stain or black acrylic paint
• white chalk paint/ disposable foam brushes
• 16 oz. mason jar
• twine
• big hook for front and a sawtooth hook for back
• sand paper or sander (80 grit)
• hot glue gun/tape
• flowers

Stain Wood

I actually stained my wood with one coat of an ebony color but if you feel more comfortable working with black acrylic paint or black spray paint, it works just as well.

Chalk Paint and Distress

Once the stain was dry, I brushed on two coats of white chalk paint. A disposable foam brush will prevent any brush marks when working with chalk style paint, and it’s easy clean up. Next I sanded the edges with an 80 grit sanding sponge which made the black stain show through, giving it a rustic look. I also sanded down some of the corners to make it look more worn.

Add Hook

The rustic hook I bought at Hobby Lobby really pulled the look I was going for together.

Prepare Mason Jar

Cut a piece of twine about 20″. Tape the ends leaving some hangover, you’ll make a knot out of the extra so leave enough for that step.

Next take a long piece of twine and hot glue it to the back of the jar (I used 24″) and wind it around the neck until you like how it looks. Attach the other end with hot glue.

Take off the tape and knot those loose ends. I added a drop of hot glue to my knots to keep them from unraveling after I trimmed off the excess.

Attach Jar

Add the jar to the board. At this point I decided to add a twine bow. I just made a bow and hot glued it to the front. I also added a saw tooth hanger on the back. 

Add Flowers

Add greenery and flowers and hang!
