How to Create a Storage Cabinet Above a Sump Pump & a Faux Stone Wall
Today’s post is a DIY project my husband and I took on last summer. We created a decorative faux stone wall and storage cabinet in our family room by transforming a wall into an organized stone wall. Here is how we did it. First things first, you need to check out our poorly placed sump pump. We created a cover for the sump pump. Then check out our faux stone wall.

This cabinet was found on clearance. Instead of making a cabinet, we decided to build shelving around this cabinet.
We created a frame to put around the sink cabinet we found on clearance.
The raised box on the bottom is where our sump pump is located. We created a removal top to allow us to use it when we need to. We added extra support with cross beams and this also allows people to sit on it.
The cabinet also covered the pipe for the sump pump.
This is what the cabinet looks like after we were finished. You can't even see the sump pump. We then put molding around it to finish the look and painted the inside wall white.
We cleaned the stone in the garage and set up the rows to make sure they lined up. This took some time. But, it was worth it.
We set up the wall and added the mesh. And started adding the adhesive for the stones to adhere to the wall. Then we added the mantel. I always wanted a mantel. We continued up the wall and added the molding to connect the two areas together.

Here is the final photo recently as of 2021. I added curtains on the bookshelves area so we don't see the games. I used one insulated curtain and cut it and made two smaller cafe curtains. Then attached it to a pressure rod. We modified the wall color and painted the molding at the bottom white. We added a box for displaying items to fill the heater hole as well.

Agree with the creepy but necessary. Imagine having the pump kick on while you're sitting there! But the project looks great.
