I must admit that I am sorta jealous of anyone with a cozy fireplace! I love how they look, even when they aren't being used. I will most likely be making a full blown fake version sometime in the near future, but in the meantime these fake fireplace logs with a temporary, moveable, place-it-anywhere setup will carry me through the holidays. All it takes is a couple of spade drilled logs, some tea lights, and garland to create a super festive faux fireplace in any room of the house!

Supplies for the DIY project

SUPPLIES:

-Birch Logs

-Fireplace Grate

-Garland / Christmas Decor

-Black Board

-1.5" Spade Bit

-Tea Lights

-Push Pins

Measuring and marking the tea lights

STEP 1: Measure and Mark the Tea Lights

Decide how many tea lights you are going to put in each log. Then measure and mark evenly on the log, so the tea lights are distributed properly.

Drilling holes in the wood

STEP 2: Drill Holes Into The Wood

Take a 1.5" spade bit and drill holes into each of the marks that you made in step 1 until they are deep enough to fit a tea light into.

Placing tea lights in the holes

STEP 3: Place Your Tea Lights

Place your tea lights into the slots you just created. I used battery powered ones, so there is no need to be concerned about a fire.

Making a faux fireplace

STEP 4: Make Your Background

Place a black foam board against an empty space in your house.

Adding a Christmas garland around the board

STEP 5: Add Some Greenery

Surround the board with some Christmas garland and other greenery that you like.

Adding ornaments

STEP 6: Add Some hanging Ornaments

You can add some hanging ornaments into the black board or even write a fun message in a metallic marker!

Placing the fireplace grate

STEP 7: Place Your Fireplace Grate

Center your fireplace grate in front of the garland trimmed board.

Pilling the fake logs

STEP 8: Add Your Fake Logs

Now simply load up your fake logs (with some unaltered logs underneath).

Lighting the tea lights

STEP 9: Light Up Your Tea Lights

Now just turn on or light your tea lights and enjoy a cozy looking temporary fireplace!

This has really got me inspired to build a more permanent faux fireplace in my house... I think I foresee that in the near future!!!

I think I am going to give this set of light up logs to a friend who has an old closed off fireplace. Of course hers is more epic than this faux version, but I must say this is pretty cozy for those of us who don't have a fireplace.
