Let's get started creating this gorgeous décor piece for your front porch.
1. Fill a planter with dirt
For my winter planter, I recycled a planter from the summertime. It was already filled with dirt so that was perfect to hold my greens in place.
2. Add your greenery
I used the same planting formula I use when I'm doing my summer planters which is thriller, filler, and spiller.
First, I used common Pine as my spiller. It’s very flowy so will go over the edges of the planter nicely.
Once I had the pine in place, I started adding some different spruces to give it some height in the middle.
When all of the spruce was filled in, I added a few sprigs of juniper with some pretty blue berries.
3. Prepare and add your pinecones
Next, I went back inside (it was cold!) and I took some large pinecones that I had, as well as a sturdy stick from my yard, and I hot glued the stick to the pinecones. I made enough pinecone sticks to add several to my planter.
4. Add winter berries
To give the winter planter a festive look, I added some red winter berries. I added a few sprigs right in the middle.
5. Make a bow
I had some pretty ribbon so I made a really simple bow to add to the planter. I just made five loops, and then secured them with a pipe cleaner at the bottom.
6. Spray paint branches
To give them one more festive touch, I grabbed some branches from my yard and gave them a coat of copper spray paint.
7. Add string lights
While I was waiting for the branches to dry, I added a string of lights to my winter planter.
8. End by adding your painted branches
Finally, I popped in the branches to finish it all off.
