Originally, when we made this summer wreath for Steph’s front door, we formed the pool noodle into a circle and taped it together.

However after a few weeks it began to loose it’s shape. It was no longer a nice round circle, but a saggy oblong wreath. In fact, it looked pretty sad.

Clearly, we needed something to give it some structure in the the heat of the summer.

Pool noodles aren't just for poolside fun! Check out this collection of gorgeous pool noodle wreaths for every holiday and season.

As we were looking for a solution, we saw small hula hoops at the dollar store and thought that would fix our saggy wreath.

Overall, it did give it structure to hold it’s shape, but it was too big and we had to piece together 2 pool noodles. Which meant, we had 2 areas of packaging tape we were trying to conceal.

So, back to the drawing board…

As it happens a 14″ metal floral hoop is the perfect size for the length of a pool noodle. Shazam, we had stability for the pool noodle wreath.

First, you will need to cut a slit the length of the pool noodle, just cutting to the center of the noodle.

Next, you will slide the pool noodle over the metal hoop.

Then you’ll want to twist the cut edge towards the back, so it will not show.

As the ends of the pool noodle are pulled together, you’ll find you will need to cut an angle about 1/2″ off of the area towards the center of the wreath. While the utility knife will work for this, scissors were much easier and did the job just great. This will ensure that it fits together nicely.

Finally, attach the 2 ends together with a pieces of packaging tape. You may find it helpful to enlist another set of hands to help with this.

Now we don’t want that packaging tape to show, so by glueing ribbon around the seam it’s easily concealed.

As it happens it makes the perfect tails for the bow we will be adding.

Personally, I think the easiest way to make a bow for this summer wreath for the front door is to make a 6 loop bow and secure it with wire. You can see a tutorial how to make a bow here.

However, Steph already had this fun nautical wired ribbon on hand, but it was also cut into lengths that ranged from 15″-24″. Clearly, none of them were long enough to make the bow.

So, instead I took the cut lengths of ribbon and glued each one together forming a loop.

Then, I layered each loop together and secured it with glue.

Finally to conceal the glued loops in the center, I took a short piece of ribbon and wrapped it around the loops and secured it with glue.

At this time, I glued the bow to the wreath over the seam area.

With the heat of summer, I started to worry that the glue would fail and the bow would fall apart and come off the wreath.

So, I then took some fishing line and secured the loops of the bow to the pool noodle. It’s now very secure.

I definitely believe that making a bow and securing to the pool noodle wreath with wire would be much easier and more secure.

Certainly, embellishing this summer wreath for the front door is the fun part.

A quick trip to the dollar store will provide lots of ideas for embellishing your pool noodle wreath.

We chose swim goggles and small flip flops.

They are easily attached by threading a long length of fishing line through a large needle.

First, pierce the heel end of the flip flop with the needle and pull the fishing line through. Then insert the needle through the pool noodle under the ribbon and secure on the backside.

You may find it easier to push the needle through the pool noodle with a pair of needle nose pliers.

The pliers were also helpful for pulling the needle through on the back side too.

Repeat with the second flip flop.

To attach the googles, I looped the fishing line through the plastic slide. Then I threaded the fishing line through the needle and attached it through the pool noodles.

One more step, is to create a loop for hanging.

To form a loop, I threaded a piece of wire through the ribbon on the backside, creating a loop for hanging.

Now you can place your playful summer wreath on your front door and enjoy it all summer long.

I’ve read at least a dozen times on pool noodle wreaths. You’re the first one to insert a frame. Ingenious. I never could figure out how a pool noodle could hold weight, especially the ornament style. Your idea opens up sizing too. Make own insert and cover with noodles as needed. Thanks for sharing
