1. Prepare the Frame
To start, cut up an old pallet to use as the boards for the frame.
Remove any nails from the pieces.
Lightly sand the boards on all sides.
Next, trim them to create a square frame matching the size of the old window you will be repurposing.
2. Construct the Frame
Use a Kreg jig to create pocket holes on each end of two boards for the frame.
Assemble the square frame using the boards and secure them with screws.
Cut and sand additional boards to fit the inside width, attaching them to the frame with pocket holes.
Ensure even spacing between rows by placing wood blocks.
3. Refurbish the Window
Sand the window frame thoroughly, using a palm sander for the surface and hand sanding for edges and tight spots.
Replace any worn-out caulking with fresh white caulk, smoothing it with a damp finger for a clean finish.
Add hinges to attach the window securely to the pallet frame, pre-drilling holes for screws.
Test to make sure the window is opening and closing properly.
4. Add Finishing Touches
Enhance the cabinet's appearance by incorporating a gorgeous decorative element.
Clean the glass meticulously so we can apply a faux stained glass window cling.
Create a magnetic closure by adding a magnet and screw on the inside of the frame.
Install a glass knob on the window for easy opening.
5. Final Assembly
Affix a quarter-inch plywood backing to the cabinet with wood glue and brad nails for stability.
Ensure all components are securely attached, and admire your masterpiece – a captivating stained glass cabinet crafted from repurposed old windows.
