Put glass stones inside.
I just made arrangements for a 50th anniversary celebration. I used clear vases so I wrapped the stems in tulle using the color that was in the color scheme and complemented the flowers. Then I added more tulle into the vase, turning the vase around and around while feeding the tulle into the sides of the vase. They turned out beautiful, if I do say so myself! For the smaller (ivy)bowls, I filled them using the "crinkled" gift bag filler then adding the flowers. Cute!
thank you!
I agree- its all about the ribbon! Have fun with it!
tin foil
Glass jems,pebbles and stones
Or just dip the bottom half of the vase in some paint. I see halfway painted vases all the time and they are just lovely!
I have seen florists wrap very large decorative leaves around the stems (kind of like variegated hostas).
Use a smaller vase inside the larger one. Fill the smaller vase with the arrangement and water, place inside larger one then fill around inside with a pretty filler, jelly beans, fake flower pteals, or whatever.
Vanilla coffee beans!! They have a nice scent of vanilla, and are a cheap vase filler you can use over & over again.
I took some flowers off the stems and put them inside the vase. Everyone has great ideas
I have put bubble wrap in the vase & sounds silly but looked good.
At Easter time, I use small plastic eggs.
When I owned my flower shop we used clear cellophane wrap the crinkly kind that we used to wrap gift baskets with. You can use it with fresh or silk flowers. Cut three or four pieces and crinkle them accordion style and wrap them around your hand then slide them into the vase to the bottom. If your vase is large like yours save time by adding a second shorter clear cylinder vase in the centre ( you can buy florist putty in the floral section of most good department stores-stick a piece on the bottom of the centre vase to keep it from shifting on you). This helps shape your arrangement as well. If you go into a florist they often will keep odds and sods of leaves they didn't need off of other silk arrangements and will often sell them to you for next to nothing. You could wind palm frawns around the vase and just dab the tiniest bit of glue stick to the length of the stem to hold it in place before putting in the cellophane. You don't see it so long as you use the clear! Good luck and be creative!
You received wonderful suggestions. The only few I could suggest, since you got the best ones is colour the water or scrunch coloured tissue In the vase..
Fill with crinkled tissue paper shaped into balls or lightweight filler like those you might find at Pier1. If they're inexpensive enough, I purchase them outright - like small rattan balls and faux moss - otherwise I look for ideas from places like Pottery Barn and then look for something similar. Example - fall decorations - I like pumpkins so I look for dried pumpino pods. Sometimes I use nuts - buckeyes are fun - acorns can be fun - look for wooden ones with real acorn caps. Spring decorations would likely go better with your vase. I'd look for round, light-colored rattan balls or other light colored and lightweight materials. Rocks, glass, etc. are too heavy for glass unless you find a way to fill in the middle around the stems. Some glass is strong enough but they get awfully heavy. Someone suggested another vase inside. Maybe consider a big-gulp size plastic cup - you can paint it if you want a solid color or cover with tissue and mod podge - doesn't really matter since you'll be covering it - then fill around the plastic cup inside the glass vase. Lots of great ideas in this thread! Enjoy!
Use fake moss or sea shells or wrap the stems in tule mini fake crystalls or colored water all can be bought at dollorama
Moss or marbles.
You can fill it up with artificial dirt.
