The first thing you want to do is mix up your cement. This particular brand requires a three-to-one ratio of powder and water.
Use a disposable bowl and utensils or something that you don't want to use for cooking to mix your concrete in.
Mix everything up until you have a mixture that kind of feels like pancake batter.
Use a plastic container as a mold and prep it by spraying it with cooking spray. The cooking spray isn't a necessary step, but it's going to make the cement pop out really easily.
Fill the mold half to three-quarters with the concrete mix.
I thrifted this cute little cup, and I want it to sit at the bottom of my piece to hold a succulent.
I wanted my piece to dry at an angle as it will help it stand up a little bit better so I put a few pieces of wood underneath one side.
Next, push the teacup into the bottom portion of the container. Once you have everything exactly where you want it, leave it to dry for at least 24 hours.
I used the same process for my second piece as well.
Again, to get the mold to dry at an angle, slip something thick under one end.
For my second piece, I added a little saucer to the bottom.
To keep it in place, I rigged up a few craft sticks and some painter's tape to help keep the plate exactly where I wanted it.
While the cement is still wet, you can also add some embellishments like stones. You can also wait until everything is dry and then glue them on.
After waiting 24 hours for the concrete to dry, you can pop the pieces out of the molds. The cooking oil helps them pop out really easily.
If the backs are still a little bit wet, you may want to let it dry out of the mold for another couple of hours.
I put a little tiny succulent in my teacup and used the saucer as a candle holder. These are such fun accessories in my living room. They were really easy to make, and I was able to use an inexpensive plastic container and some pretty thrifted china pieces. I hope this inspired you to make some concrete creations for yourself.

Very clever idea. I'm going to do this. Most thrift stores have a great variety of cups & saucers in beautiful patterns to match any decor.
