Easy Sunflower Clothespin Wreath (Dollar Store Craft)
Making wreaths doesn’t have to be difficult. This easy sunflower clothespin wreath shows how simple it can be to make your own stunning decoration for the front door!
Plus, it’s a Dollar Tree craft. So this cute wreath is actually very inexpensive to make, too!
If you can use a can of spray paint and a hot glue gun, you can definitely do this!
What’s great about this easy wreath is that you use a pizza pan as the wreath form. It’s cheap and super simple to use!
Dollar Tree Clothespin Wreath
All of the supplies, other than the spray paint, were bought at the Dollar Tree. Which makes this a very affordable wreath to make. The cost of supplies was:
- 2 packs of clothespins: $2
- Pizza pan: $1
- Greenery: $1
- Sunflowers: $1
Total Cost: $5
If you already had some of these items at home, it would obviously cost much less. This is assuming you have some spray paint to use at home. Otherwise, you can buy spray paint and use it for a variety of other crafts, too, since it won’t take a lot for this project.

How to Make a Sunflower Clothespin Wreath
Supplies
- 2 Packages of Clothespins – 72 total
- Dollar Tree Pizza Pan
- Yellow Spray Paint (I used Rustoleum Ultracover in Golden Sunset)
- Black Spray Paint
- Wirecutters (optional)
- Boxwood bunch
- Sunflower bunch
- Small piece of rope, twine or ribbon
- Hot glue gun/ glue sticks
Instructions
Step 1
Spray paint all of the clothespins with yellow spray paint. You can leave the clothespins on their card from the packaging when spraying.
Be sure to spray all of the edges and in between the clothespin halves where the hinges are. You don’t want to see any brown peeking through.
Step 2
Coat the entire front of the pizza pan with black spray paint. Let dry completely. This could take a while if it’s humid outside, so allow at least 30-60 minutes.
Step 3
Clip all of the clothespins around the outer edge of the pizza pan. They don’t have to be touching each other, you can leave a little bit of space in-between each clothespin.
Leave a small section blank with no clothespins. This is where you will add flowers.
Step 4
Make a loop with your ribbon and hot glue it to the back of the pizza pan to create a hanger for the wreath.
Step 5
If needed, use wire cutters to cut the greenery stems and sunflower stems that you want to use.
Hot glue stems of the greenery to the open area of the pizza pan first.
Then add sunflower stems and hot glue securely to the wreath form. Press firmly to get the greenery and flowers to stick to the pan.

I'm in the process of making this; and I did use black chalk paint (Spray paint) on the pan. I also painted 10 of the clothespins a dark red color so that they can be put two-by-two in between sections of the yellow-painted ones; just to add a little more splash of color. I'm waiting for the paint to dry overnight before adding the silk flowers and greenery; and I might add a small bow or some other simple embellishment as well if it won't make it too over-the-top. I think it's best kept a little simple.
You could of course paint the pan and the clothespins any colors you want. I'm thinking of making one some time and painting the entire thing (Leaving the flowers/greenery off) with a clear outdoor paint over the other paint, and attaching a dowel/stick/rod to the back and using it as a lawn ornament. Just follow your imagination!

I have used spray paint on one pizza pan and after drying time the paint cracked and peeled, so I did another with chalk paint and it also didn’t stick to the pan. Trying to figure out what went wrong
