Hula Hoop Christmas Chandelier Tutorial: Budget-Friendly Holiday Decor
I was on the hunt for a fun way to take my holiday decor to the next level this year. I wanted to make a noticeable change to my dining room without putting in too much effort.
This turned out to be trickier than expected, since my house is already decked out in holiday decor (tastefully, of course).
That’s when a friend and I came up with the brilliant idea of creating a Hula Hoop Christmas Chandelier using dollar store supplies—an easy, budget-friendly DIY project!

Make your own Christmas chandelier with this highly recommended pack of fairy lights that Amazon reviewers swear by!
1. Wrap the Hula Hoop with Garlands
Lay the hula hoop on a table to make assembly easier.
Take two garlands and wrap them around half of the hula hoop.
Repeat the process with another two garlands for the remaining half.
This layering ensures the chandelier looks lush and full.
Adjust the garlands as needed to cover any gaps.
2. Add the String Lights
Wrap your string lights around the garland-covered hula hoop.
Keep wrapping until the hoop is evenly lit.
The more lights, the merrier—because who doesn’t love twinkling holiday lights?
3. Attach Ribbons for Hanging
To hang your chandelier, cut four long pieces of holiday ribbon.
Tie the ribbons to the hula hoop at four evenly spaced points.
Make sure the ribbons are the same length to ensure the chandelier hangs straight.
Pro tip: You can also use three ribbons if needed, but four provides better balance.
4. Decorate with Ornaments
Add mini ornaments to your chandelier for a festive touch.
- Choose colors that match your holiday theme.
- For a cohesive look, match the chandelier with your table decor—for example, use gold ornaments for a gold tablescape.
5. Hang It Up
Now it’s time to hang your new chandelier!
Tie the ribbons to your existing chandelier or a central light fixture above your table.
If your light fixture is a single bulb, don’t worry—the chandelier is lightweight and easy to secure.
This hula hoop chandelier is a showstopper that’ll wow your family and friends. It’s festive, customizable, and super simple to make.
Plus, it’s a great way to bring some sparkle and joy to your holiday meals!

This project is something I am anxious to try. I have a place to attach it to our deer antler chandilier over our table. Great instructions and beautiful!
