We shared this tip on Chemistry Cachet many years in a post all about cleaning hacks with salt.
Then, we did an Instagram reel about it and everyone loved it!
This is an easy tip that works so well to clean glass bottles or containers you can't reach with a brush or sponge. Readers have been writing in already about how well it worked for them.

Ingredients you need:
- Ice cubes
- Table salt
Directions:
- Fill glass container halfway with ice cubes.I do a mix of whole cubes and crushed.
- Add in a few tablespoons of regular table salt.
- Out the lid back on. If container doesn’t have a lid, cover it with something secure like foil or press and seal. Just something to allow you to shake.
- Shake vigorously for 30 seconds or until ice starts to break up.
- Rinse under warm water.

This is the water bottle I use to mix up collagen, but nothing fits inside to clean it! I use this method for cleaning and it makes it crystal clear :)
If you don't have a lid for the top of your container, just use some foil. I use foil when I do this to my coffee pot.

My father taught my siblings and I this many, many years ago.
He would put salt and ice cubes in the pot and swish it around. After a few minutes the pot is sparkling clean.

We used this to clean coffee pots when I worked as a server in restaurants, only we squeezed lemon juice in the pot as well. Great way to quickly remove the coffee stains.

Does it work on plastic bottles? Thank you.
Hi...
Will this work on older bottles that have a white-ish film inside of them..? We’ve found some really neat bottles over time but, several have that film inside that I haven’t been able to get cleared off.
