My hallway was very plain and dark. It needed some sprucing up.

On the other side of this blank wall is my closet.

Hometalk Recommends!

Brighten a dark hallway with this recommended window frame and led strip that Amazon reviewers swear by!

I did not get a before photo, but this is a window from an old storm door that I had laying around. I sprayed the back side of the windows with Rust-Oleum Frosted Glass so you could not see through them.

I added LED strip lighting on the back side of the wood framing. The lights come in different colors, but I chose white, and they have a sticky backing that adheres to the frame.

This is a closeup of the lights. There's an adapter that plugs into the end and this plugs into my timer. It's set to come on during the daytime only.

These are just L brackets that the window hangs on. It is out of the way so no one gets close enough to bump into it and possibly fall on them.

I added a lacy valance on the top and on the wall it went. Everyone that sees it thinks it's a real window. It brightens up the hall and makes me smile every time I walk by.

This post has been coming across my feed for a couple of years now, and I have looked at it every time! This is probably the 6th or 7th time 😂. I love this idea! It looks so great and I have a dark hallway heading to the primary bedroom, and I have a plug. I just need a husband that will cooperate with me to help with the project! It shows much brighter in the photo, trust me. It took a long time for my dogs to even want to go down that hallway after we moved in here, because it was so dark when the bedroom door was shut.

This deserves all the likes. Fantastic! Love the big impact with something most of us can do without much trouble, for almost instant gratification. 👍️

Your entry/post came across my feed about a year and a half ago - honestly? the reason I clicked on it when I saw the picture is b/c I thought IT WAS MY HALLWAY!! and to my surprise, your post was EXACTLY what I needed for my hallway, though I didn't know it until I saw what you did! my hallway was horrible with no outside light and only one flush-mounted, very dimly-lit ceiling light...and please forgive this one and only picture I have (and I am not at home as I am typing this, so I can't just hop up and take a current picture of what the FINAL project looks like), complete with the (THEN) updated, but not finished, in this picture, board and batten installation I did immediately after doing your project - oh! and the light in the picture was too bright, so I opted for a "Warm lighting" LED strip, which I got off of Amazon.

Thank you for the inspiration!! You were a life-saver!
