How to Deep Clean Your Bathtub- No Scrubbing Required
One of my least favorite chores has to be cleaning out the bathtub. It’s so awkward to reach into and scrub clean all of the surfaces. I’m not crazy about using smelly harsh chemicals and most natural cleaners that I had tried just didn’t cut it or required a fair amount of hard scrubbing.
Well a few years ago I stumbled upon this method by doing some of my own experimenting, and I have been cleaning my bathtub this way ever since. All you need is three simple ingredients that you most likely already have at home. Read below to find out what my secret is to get the cleanest bathtub... with zero scrubbing required!
Hometalk Recommends!
All you will need to clean your bathtub is 1 tbsp of blue dawn dish soap, 1/2 cup of white distilled vinegar, and 1/3 cup baking soda.
Pardon the gross drain, but I wanted to give you a good idea as to what I was working with and how well this method works.
As you can see the chrome fixtures have soap scum and water marks on them, and the tub itself is dull and in need of a good clean.
Start by plugging the drain in the tub and dump in the three ingredients directly into the tub. Give them a mix and add a little hot water if you find the mixture too thick. Then using a wet microfiber towel spread the mixture all over the tub and surround making sure every surface is coated. And then you walk away.... leave this sit for 1-2 hours and go enjoy something else.
After the two hours are up go back in and wipe the tub down with the microfiber cloth. I know I said no scrubbing, but this is just a wipe down to loosen everything up, you don’t need much effort. I then like to rinse everything off with hot water. You can see how shiny and clean the chrome fixtures are now.
And all of that gunk around the drain is completely gone.
The surround itself is also super shiny and squeaky clean! I love this method of cleaning out the tub. The solution melts away the grime and leaves you with a sparkling clean bathtub. The best part for me is that all of these ingredients aren’t full of harsh chemicals and the work required is very minimal.

why does everyone in the entire world have to add Dawn to EVERYthing. I will bet 99% of people have no clue as to why they are using in in everything they do. It is soap. People have no idea why they do it they just read something and follow it like sheep.

Not a lot of products, how much hot water did you add so as not to dilute but still have enough to coat everything? This looks great and now I think that instead of my old blue bathtub, might need a good cleaning instead of it being dull with age.
Does it leave the tub slippery for the person who showers next?
Can you use this on glass doors
